2020-03-04 SBG Webinar: Estimating spatial and temporal beta-diversity of plant communities from spaceborne hyperspectral data by Dr Simon Ferrier (CSIRO)

The coarser pixel resolution of spaceborne hyperspectral data, relative to that of airborne data, means that multiple plant species will typically contribute to the composite spectral profile associated with a given pixel. This raises the interesting possibility of rapidly estimating spatial and temporal turnover in plant-community composition directly from analysis and modelling of the level of dissimilarity observed between these composite profiles across space and time. This webinar will outline early thinking around this idea, review results of some very preliminary testing of the approach, and discuss future challenges in taking the approach forwards
