Call for papers: “The Earth in living color: spectroscopic and thermal imaging of the Earth: NASA’s Decadal Survey Surface Biology and Geology Designated Observable”

This special collection focuses on tracing capability needs by the research and applications communities using visible-to-shortwave infrared (VSWIR) imaging spectroscopy and multispectral thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing to an architecture for advancing the science of Earth surface biology and geology.

This special collection focuses on tracing capability needs by the research and applications communities using visible-to-shortwave infrared (VSWIR) imaging spectroscopy and multispectral thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing to an architecture for advancing the science of Earth surface biology and geology. Recently launched VSWIR and TIR spaceborne missions, such as PRISMA, ECOSTRESS, HISUI and DESIS, and upcoming missions, including ENMAP, CHIME, LSTM, TRISHNA, and the NASA Surface Biology and Geology (SBG) Designated Observable, provide a basis for a new era of remote sensing to inform our understanding of vegetation processes, aquatic ecosystems, mineralogy, snow, and volcanic activity. We encourage submissions related to the SBG architecture study and its working groups (algorithms, applications, calibration and validation, modeling) that will document how the NASA Decadal Survey and Science and Applications Traceability Matrix evolved to include community engagement, algorithm development, applications synergies, and international partnerships. These efforts were integral aspects of a ‘downselect’ process for an architecture that optimizes science and applications value. We intend for the collection to cover a broad range of topics related to mission architecture studies as well as new scientific advances and their relevance to VSWIR and TIR applications.

More information including deadlines and the submission process will posted soon at the AGU JGR Biogeosciences website
